History
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established by an Act of Parliament in 1985, has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education. It has tried to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by offering high-quality teaching through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
The objective of IGNOU is to cater to the educational aspirations of large number of people without any discrimination. Keeping in view of the objective, Regional Centre, Bhagalpur was established in 2011. With only three districts under the jurisdiction of Regional Centre Bhagalpur, namely, Bhagalpur, Banka & Munger, an extensive effort is being made to provide higher education to the people of these districts in general and to the disadvantage section of the people in particular through its network of 16 Learner Support Centres offering different PG, UG, PG-Diploma, Diploma & Certiifcate programmes.
The steady and gradual growth of enrolment status in spite of the limitations like small operational area (Bhagalpur, Banka and Munger districts), the poor connectivity and lack of infrastructure facilities & resources is a sure sign of its growth in this region out of people’s choice and goodwill towards our organization. The RC is functioning in a cost effective manner and optimal utilization of the resources where income exceeds the expenditure. IGNOU RC- Bhagalpur is offering chances to develop skills among the youth and under privileged as an educational institution as well as a nodal agency in reducing regional imbalances and augments equity, equality and socio economic development in this region. Regional Centre, Bhagalpur is striving hard, here with a vision and mission, sensible to the students needs with its support systems, imparts quality education and continues as an effective partner in achieving inclusive growth of the state as well as the country through inclusive education.
